Recently, man's model for depression was proven to be wrong: Serotonin Gene's Link With Depression Not Valid, Says Study
For decades, people have been distracted away from the real cure for depression which was given to us thousands of years ago in the Bible!
Does the word "cure" bother you?
The reason anyone can say they have "cured" anything is they have reversed the damage and addressed the cause, which means they have identified the cause! Think about it: if you take your car to a mechanic and he replaces the faulty part with a new one, you don't say he "temporarily" fixed it. Even if the part breaks again due to a separate event, no one takes the mechanic to court claiming he didn't fix their car.
The Bible gives the cure for depression, and it's not, "pray", "have faith", "think positive thoughts", etc. The Bible explains how God has created each person with a mind and brain. We are not animals. We are not robots. We are a mind/soul and we use our brain in either a healthy or unhealthy manner.
Depression is not caused by a chemical imbalance. Depression is caused by a person embracing contradictions in their life. Our unconscious brain wants these contradictions resolved and gets our attention by lowering our energy so we can focus on removing the contradiction. If the contradiction is in a major area of our life, the unconscious depresses our energy. Not only did God provide the answer in His Word, the job of helping people with this issue was identified!
And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and scattered, as sheep not having a shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest. (Matthew 9:35-38)
Jesus healed everyone of every manner of illness, yet people were distressed and scattered. These words point to the people being mentally downcast and emotionally disconnected. God can instantly restore people spiritually and physically. However, Jesus explained and encouraged the need for "laborers" because in order for people to be restored mentally and emotionally, it requires interacting with people!
The church is responsible for restoring a person mentally and emotionally, which requires hard work (hence the term “labor”). That is what Music of Life Church - Kimberly is focused on: providing and developing Laborers for the church!
Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man thinketh himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let each man prove his own work, and then shall he have his glorying in regard of himself alone, and not of his neighbor. For each man shall bear his own burden. (Galatians 6:1-5)
These verses in Galatians 6 teach us to bear our own burdens and to bear the burdens of each other. This is called "the law of Christ"!
A person going through The Restoration Process will have 10-12 lessons with two Restoration Coaches. Those lessons are an intentional way to help a person bear their own burden, ON PURPOSE! We have had a wondrous amount of success (hundreds of graduates) in this way of serving.
The Restoration Process not only helps a person be restored mentally and emotionally, it helps that person keep control of their lives during the hardest of times, so that they can hear the Still Small Voice of God our Father!
What is your definition of "mental health"?
If it is never having a negative thought or feeling, then no one has mental health. As Christians, we know sin doesn't prevent us from salvation; it is our response to sin that determines our salvation. Likewise, "mental health" is the ability to repair our own thought process - to bear our own burden. It is only then that you are able to be a "laborer" bearing the burden of others and fulfilling the law of Christ!
